You can quantify ANY job, even if it doesn’t have metrics or impact revenue. Here’s the trick. Because there are many different ways that you can quantify your work that has nothing to do with money. So let’s say you implemented a new system for looking up medical records. Before, you have to type in a patient’s 12 digit ID number, which is time consuming and easy to make an error. Now, the new system allows you to quickly find a patient by typing in just a few letters of their name, and the results populate. Okay, great. You did a thing. But how do we quantify it? First: What can we count? Number of medical records. You don’t remember the exact number of medical records, but it was at least 3,000. Perfecto. Next, let’s think about time. Count how many seconds it takes you to type out 12 numbers. For me, it took me about 11 seconds to type out a 12 number code while making sure I was typing it in right. Now, time yourself typing someone’s name to find them in a database, and it took me about 3 seconds. So that was 3 times faster, or 300% faster. Or you could measure it by roughly the number of hours saved per month. See I’m estimating here. That’s all you have to do. So the accomplishment could sound something like: Implemented a system to look up 3000+ medical records, which was 300% faster than the previous method.
