Job interview tips from a recruiter who made hiring decisions for 20+ years. Tell me about yourself' isn't an invitation to repeat your resume, it's your two-minute chance to show why you're the right person for the job. Most people prepare for job interviews by memorizing their resume. That's not what gets you hired. I coach professionals on exactly what hiring managers are evaluating and how to walk into any interview as the obvious choice. I help professionals land the job, get the promotion, and show up like the leader they already are. #interview #interviewtips #careercoach #careertok #learnitontiktok
Transcript
The interview question. Tell me about yourself. You know what they really want to know? Tell me why I should keep listening to you. And look, that sounds harsh. I am a 20+ year recruiting and people leader. I have created a business helping people craft their stories for what comes next. I can't tell you the amount of interviews that I have sat in over the course of my career. And the tell me about yourself is likely one of the hardest questions that you will answer. And it is the thing that signals to a hiring manager or whoever you are sitting in front of, why am I sitting here and why do I want to continue to listen? Look, your resume got you the interview. Your resume is telling them that you should be able to do the job. You now have two minutes to paint a really eloquent picture about who you are, what you do, and what value you bring to an organization. So you've got to master this answer. And what I fear most people do is they start walking people through their entire resume. That's not what we're looking for. We wanna understand why you are the person above everybody else that we're going to interview that is right for this opportunity and what you bring to the table. I can read your resume. I can see all the bullet points on your resume. You don't need to walk me through that. You Need to give me a very quick signal on why you. I hope that's helpful. Drop into the comments any questions you have. And good luck out there.

Transplant note
Nothing country-specific: 'tell me about yourself' is asked identically in Australian hiring. The reframe ('tell me why I should keep listening', two minutes, don't walk the resume) carries over as-is. Only addition for an internationally-trained audience: the answer has to bridge overseas experience to the local role, which the original doesn't address.
Brand fit note
The inversion (they're not asking for your resume, they're asking why keep listening) is on-voice and the 'you think X, X is wrong' shape is Ark's highest-performing pattern. But there is no mechanism — no structure, no script, no word count, only 'you've got to master this answer'. Only number is 'two minutes'; fails cost accounting. The mid-video credential block ('I am a 20+ year recruiting and people leader...') is throat-clearing that breaks 'Open cold'. 'I hope that's helpful. And good luck out there' is career-coach filler to cut. Rebuild with a subdivision teach (what a hiring manager wants to hear from a mid-level vs senior candidate) and a concrete two-minute frame.
