1. Stop applying through LinkedIn. Apply directly on company websites. Sounds backwards, right? Isn’t LinkedIn where the jobs are? But applying directly through a company’s career page can get you closer to the original listing and help you find openings before they’ve spread across every major job board. CareerHound.io makes this easier by pulling direct-from-company listings into one place. Filter for jobs posted in the last 24 hours so you can get there early. 2. Read a company’s OTHER open roles before you apply. Sounds like a waste of time, but it can tell you a lot. A company’s job postings are basically a list of problems they’re trying to solve. If they’re suddenly hiring three growth marketers, growth is probably a priority. Skim the careers page, spot the pattern, and tailor your application around what the company clearly needs. 3. Message the hiring manager BEFORE you apply. It might feel desperate. It doesn’t have to be. Keep it to two lines: “Saw you’re hiring for X. Here’s one thing I’d focus on in the first 30 days.” That’s it. No “I’m a hard worker.” No life story. Give them one specific, relevant idea that shows you understand the role. 4. Put LESS on your resume, not more. More experience doesn’t automatically make a resume more impressive. Cut the irrelevant stuff and tailor your resume tightly to the job you actually want. Make it easy for someone to immediately understand why you fit that specific role. RezPass.com can help with this by trimming unnecessary content, tailoring your resume to the job description, and checking it for ATS compatibility. 5. Don’t overlook smaller companies with 10–15 employees. Everyone wants the recognizable company name. That also means everyone is applying there. Smaller companies can have smaller applicant pools and shorter hiring processes. Look for companies that are actively growing and hiring instead of automatically chasing the biggest names. Save this for your next application. 🔖 What’s the weirdest job-search advice that actually worked for you?
