A lot of people come to us keen to land a role operating big dump trucks and heavy machinery in the mining industry. But if you do not have direct mine site experience, it can sometimes feel a bit tough to get your foot in the door. The good news is that if you have mobile plant machinery experience in local quarries or civil construction sites, you have a massive advantage. The operations you do in those industries are actually very similar to what is required on a mine site. Recruitment teams look for transferable skills like conducting machinery pre-starts, following strict traffic control systems, and loading or unloading equipment like dozers and loaders. Even local civil laboring work provides a great foundation that can help get you over the line for FIFO jobs. If you are looking to map out your transition into mining careers, we can help highlight your construction experience on your resume.
