Most students can’t bring a partner on a student visa anymore. Law since 2 Oct 2026 (F2026L01347). Confirmed: new para 1222(3)(da) lets a partner or child apply as your dependant only in listed cases. Adding family later (subsequent entrant) is gone for everyone. Applies to applications made on or after 2 Oct. Exempt: Pacific or ASEAN passport, PhD, fully foreign-govt-funded study, Defence or Foreign Affairs students. Partner held your dependant 500 on 2 Oct? They can join your next Student visa, lodged together, if you can still apply onshore. Not confirmed: the 485 version. Hill said similar restrictions “will apply”. No instrument, no date, as of 17 Oct. Send this to the friend whose offer letter says Feb 2027. General information, not migration advice. Check your case with a registered migration agent.
