Here is what to do if you’re facing ageism in the job search. Over 40% of my clients report that Ageism is one of the issues they’re facing. And when I review what they say in interviews, they often position their wisdom as their greatest strength. They’ll say, “I bring in so much experience and wisdom.” That’s actually the wrong approach. What they need to show is agility. Which includes the ability to learn new skills and have great achievements recently. Also companies want to see enthusiasm from older candidates. That attitude that no task is too small, you’re happy to help out, and you’re eager to learn. Because many seasoned professional bring the opposite energy. They find certain work beneath them. They rest on their experience. They focus on guiding others rather than improving themselves. This makes the team worry that you could have tension with a manager who is younger than you down the line. So instead, they want to see that you’re very adaptable, that you’re constantly learning, and that you’re a team player.
