The order you contribute to your accounts can make a BIG difference to how much tax you pay in Canada. 🇨🇦 I’ve saved $20K+ in taxes over the years by being intentional about where I put my money. My general priority: 1️⃣ FHSA If you’re eligible, I’d generally prioritize this first. You get a tax deduction when you contribute, while qualifying withdrawals for a first home can be tax-free. 2️⃣ RRSP Especially valuable as your income increases. The contribution can reduce your taxable income today, while you defer the tax until you withdraw the money. 3️⃣ TFSA Still one of my favourite accounts — but the contribution itself doesn’t give you a tax deduction. So I generally prioritize the accounts that give me a tax benefit first. But there’s no universal order. Your income, tax bracket, home-buying plans, existing contribution room and time horizon can all change the answer. The bigger lesson: don’t just invest more. Learn how to invest tax-efficiently. Save this for the next time you’re deciding where your next $1,000 should go. 👇 Which account are you prioritizing right now — FHSA, RRSP or TFSA?
