A referral is not the same as a recommendation. Someone uploading your résumé into the company portal might get it seen—but it doesn’t guarantee an interview. The referrals that actually carry weight usually come from someone who: • Knows your work • Understands the role • Can speak directly to the recruiter or hiring manager • Is willing to follow up and advocate for you So don’t spend all your energy collecting referrals from strangers.
