Let’s stop shaming the 9 to 5 life and declaring that “being your own boss” is always better. Because honestly, I’ve worked for someone else, and I’ve worked for myself, and both have great value for very different reasons. There is a reason for bosses. And if you’ve ever had a great boss, you know why. A great boss helps you to improve. They take a lot of the BS off your plate so you can focus on what you’re best at. They are your greatest advocate. Of course, running my own business has lots of great perks. But to think that “working for yourself” is universally a better situation is misguided. Let’s stop shaming the 9 to 5 life. It’s a fantastic path when you have the right role, company, and manager. While I love having my own business, I do miss the freedom to only focus on my best strengths when I worked for someone else. I loved my 9 to 5 jobs, and I LOVED my bosses! They helped make me who I am today. And to work for yourself involves a lot of unsavory things - you may work LONGER hours to get the business off the ground, lack support, and stretch yourself thin being the Chief “Everything” Officer. I was most at peace when I worked for a company. With the right job, it’s a great lifestyle! Do you think “being your own boss” is always better? P.S. If you want some insight on what’s standing between you and a job offer, I linked a free quiz/assessment in my bio!
