The job market looks SO MUCH different than it did 4 years ago. Letβs compare August 2022 to August 2026 (most recent data we have), the exact same time of year. In August 2022: π There were 10.1 million job openings for 6 million unemployed people. Approximately 1.7 jobs per jobseeker. π There were over 2 million openings across professional/business services and information industries. π Remote roles were more attainable, and candidates had leverage to negotiate big offers. Fast-forward to August 2026: π There are 7.1 million job openings for 7 million unemployed people. About ONE job per jobseeker. π Openings in those same industries have dropped to 1.3 million, a 37% decline. π The median time people spend unemployed has increased by 34%. And on top of that, mass layoffs and AI-powered applications have made competition even fiercer. More professionals are competing for FEWER openings. And companies can afford to be pickier about who they interview and hire. What worked in 2022 isnβt going to cut it in 2026. But people ARE landing job offers. In the past year, Iβve helped professionals land 1,000+ job offers. And when I analyzed those offers, clear patterns emerged.
