How many examples do you need to prepare before an interview? You need atleast 10! Here’s how to get started creating your example bank. #careercoach #interviewtips #interview #jobinterview #interviewprep
Transcript
If you're in a job interview and your mind goes completely blank when they ask you, tell me about a time when... this is a tip for you. I'm Kelly, I'm a career coach, and this is an interview prep trick that I teach almost every client. Stop preparing answers and start preparing categories. So before your interview, I want you to open your notebook or your notes app and create these sections. Leadership, Conflict, Failure, Big Accomplishment, Difficult Stakeholder, Tight Deadline, Mistake You Learned From. Under each one of those, I want you to write down one real story from anywhere in your career. And that's it. Because most interview questions are just asking for the same 10 to 15 themes over and over again. So instead of trying to predict every possible question you're going to be asked, you're building a story bank that you can pull from time and time again. And that's what makes people sound confident and articulate in interviews. Not memorization, good preparation. If you need help prepping for interviews or creating your story bank, I do one-on-one coaching sessions. Click the link in my bio for more information. I hope this helps and good luck on your interview.

Transplant note
Fully transplantable. Behavioural interviewing ('tell me about a time when') is if anything more dominant in Australian corporate and government hiring than in the US, and the seven categories — leadership, conflict, failure, accomplishment, difficult stakeholder, tight deadline, mistake — map onto AU panel interviews unchanged. No US visa, salary or campus-recruiting claims to strip. The upgrade for an internationally-trained audience is telling them their overseas stories count as 'anywhere in your career' — which the transcript already says, and which directly answers the no-local-experience objection.
Brand fit note
The bones are on-voice: it is a real mechanism, not encouragement, and 'stop preparing answers, start preparing categories' is close to subdivision teaching — splitting a category (interview questions) into themes nobody splits. But it fails several ship checks as written. It does not open cold: 'I'm Kelly, I'm a career coach, and this is an interview prep trick that I teach almost every client' is exactly the throat-clearing and coach-credential preamble the doc bans. Only one number appears ('10 to 15 themes'), so cost accounting is thin — Ark would attach counts and time ('10 stories, 40 minutes, covers 80% of the questions you'll get'). Sentences like 'that's what makes people sound confident and articulate' and 'I hope this helps and good luck on your interview' would survive being said by a generic career coach, so they get cut. There is no contempt pointed at a system — Ark's version would land the gap on universities and career services that never taught a story bank. The bio-link coaching CTA is a direct analogue to Ark's own offer, so that carries over unchanged.
