Why This Guy Rejected A $280K Salary - yes I literally gave this one person all the training material and all the info they would need to learn before they had an interview to get this high paying job. But they could not be bothered to learn it #skills #career #interview
Transcript
Sometimes you can literally hand someone a 280 k salary but they just don't take it years ago I was working in the energy sector as a simulator trainer and there was this one particular guy working in the I t section I think he was earning roughly about 85 k year because I had access to all the training manuals these were the manuals that pretty much told you how to run the power system I handed them to him and I said learn this stuff because if he actually understood what's inside these manuals he would have had a massive advantage when it came time to apply for role in the control room one thing that pretty much everybody knew inside this energy company is that if you make it into the control room then you're gonna be on a massive high salary so when I say a high salary I'm talking about 200 k plus this was easily achieved as long as you actually followed the training process and you went through the levels you were gonna achieve this 200 k plus now the amazing part about all this is this guy had the training material he had me on the inside he had the exact pathway sitting right in front of him and do you think that he took it? No he didn't and that's because he couldn't be bothered to go and read this material now why this is relevant to all of you in My DMS, I get a lot of messages saying, I just need somebody to show me what to do. A lot of the times that's not actually the problem. You already know what to do. I can show you where your experience has value. I can show you all the skills that you can build on. I'll show you where all the high paying opportunities are. But at some point you've actually got to do the work. Cause you might get handed a 200 k salary one day, but are you willing to do the actual work to take it?

Transplant note
Structure transplants well: cold-open money claim, first-person insider story, the pivot from 'this one guy' to 'why this is relevant to all of you in my DMs'. The energy-sector control-room ladder ($85k IT role to $200k+ control room) is industry-specific but has direct analogues for internationally-trained professionals — the sub-role inside a company that pays double and that nobody outside the building knows exists. Salary figures are AUD and survive. The part that must not survive is the moral: the anecdote's conclusion is 'he couldn't be bothered'.
