Have a career gap? Do not worry about it and stop panicking. You can handle it well. A few years career gap is NOT the problem. How you explain it can be. If a recruiter asks, “Why haven’t you worked for the last few years?” - don’t get defensive, over-explain or sound apologetic. Instead, structure your answer in 3 parts: 1. State the reason clearly - family responsibilities, health, higher studies, relocation, caregiving, personal priorities, layoff or whatever your genuine reason was. 2. Show readiness - briefly explain what changed and why you’re now ready to return to work. 3. Bring the conversation back to your value - your previous experience, relevant skills and what you can contribute to THIS role. For example: “I took a planned career break for personal/family responsibilities. Those circumstances are now settled, and I’m ready to return to work full-time. Before my break, I had 10 years of experience in Operations and I’ve been refreshing my skills in various new tools that have come up in the market apart from operation management skills. I’m now specifically looking for roles where I can use my experience.” Remember: You don’t need to justify every month of your life. You need to give the interviewer confidence that the gap is behind you and you’re ready for what’s ahead. Save this for your next interview. 🔖 #CareerGap #InterviewTips #JobSearch #CareerAdvice #interview Interview Corporate Reality HR
