What happens when you find out the beautiful thing you just experienced was made by AI? You might think the answer is: nothing. The music is still the same. The painting is still the same. Your experience of it shouldn’t suddenly change. But psychology research suggests that it can. A series of experiments with more than 1,700 participants found that people tended to evaluate the same creative work less favorably when they believed it was made by AI. They rated it as less creative, experienced less awe, and were less interested in buying it. (ScienceDirect) And here’s the part I find most interesting: the researchers weren’t simply asking whether people “like AI.” The label itself could change how people perceived the work. The researchers connect this to something called anthropocentric creativity beliefs — the idea that creativity is something uniquely human. If you strongly believe that creativity is one of the things that makes humans special, AI creating something beautiful can challenge that belief. So the next time you see something labeled “AI-generated,” try an experiment on yourself: Look at the work first. Judge it first. Then find out who—or what—made it. Because sometimes we may think we’re evaluating the art when we’re actually reacting to the story we’ve attached to its creator. Would you feel differently about a song, painting, photo, or piece of writing if you found out it was made by AI? #generativeai #artificialintelligence #Psychologyfacts #research #AIGeneratedArt
