Want 100 more word-for-word job interview answer scripts? Check out my ebook “101 Interview Questions and How to Answer Them Perfectly” #jobsearch #career #interview
Transcript
What are your salary expectations? Saw your posted range of 180,000 to 200,000, and I am comfortable with that given my experience and track record of success. I am targeting the top of that range. However, I understand we haven't had the chance to work together yet and you may want me to prove myself before I reach the top of that range. So I am more than willing to meet in the middle at 190,000. And at that salary, I am confident that you will receive a strong return on your investment in me.

Narrative structure
interview question -> word-for-word model answer -> ROI close

Transplant note
The structure — state the question, deliver the exact sentences, close on return-on-investment — is the most directly reusable thing in this set and maps onto the voice doc's 'rhetorical question, immediate answer' mechanic. The $180k-$200k US band does not survive: AU corporate bands for the target audience sit closer to $70k-$160k (already in the brand's own vocabulary), and AU postings often omit a range entirely, so the AU version needs a branch for 'there is no posted range'. Also worth adding the AU-specific superannuation question (package vs base), which has no US analogue.
Brand fit note
No Never-ships trip: nothing here is a lie or misrepresentation, no named villain, no revenge framing, and the ROI close ('you will receive a strong return on your investment in me') is genuinely on-brand with the 'you cost $70k and produce $150k' logic. It passes the number check and opens cold. Two problems: the register is polished-consultant, not blunt — 'I am more than willing to meet in the middle' is exactly the sentence a LinkedIn career coach would write, and the doc says cut those; and there is no contrarian inversion or mechanism explaining why anchoring then conceding works, so it is a script without a reason. It also funnels to a third-party paid ebook. Rebuild as: name the belief ('you think naming a number first loses you money'), break it, then give the script in short declarative lines with AUD figures.
