There’s one type of humor you shouldn’t have in a job interview (so stop!). Overall, humor in a job interview can be a good thing. It’s a good way to connect with your interviewer and present yourself as someone they’d like to work with (because let’s be honest, likability does matter a LOT in the hiring process). People know to steer clear of the obvious humor types that are controversial (dirty humor, race observations, politics...). But there’s actually one form of humor that isn’t meant for the interview but people keep doing it anyways: Sarcasm. Cut it out with the sarcasm! On both sides...interviewers need to stop it too. The reason is it’s confusing when someone doesn’t know you well and you’re in such a professional context. They don’t know if you’re joking or not, or may even find you to be rude. And, if we’re being real, sarcasm isn’t clever. So chill on the sarcasm!
