Let's unpack this👇 My coaching company ran a survey with over 2,000 high achievers in the workplace and we've also coached over 5,000 people. The women who immigrated to a new country or were raised by immigrant parents seeking a better life learned to equate success with survival. Understandably, achievement was necessary not a luxury. Their nervous systems are used to hard work. Any sign of rest or slowing down feels foreign, scary, uneasy rather than restorative. This is why this demo is more likely to experience burnout before 30 than a more general population. In my book “HEALING THE SUCCESS WOUND”, I share research and stories of first gen and immigrant women in the corporate workplace and their quest to find ways of working that work for them. Note- my company only works with women but I would strongly assume men have the same story here. Maybe even stronger. First gen daughters (and sons!) - does this resonate with you?
