Yes, it is worth your time to write a cover letter. But only if it’s fewer than seven sentences, and includes two incredibly important details. The formula to use for your cover letter is called the Barney Method. If you were alive in the 1900s, as I was, we had a television program called Barney and Friends, and Barney has a famous song that goes, “I love you, you love me.” And that’s exactly the basis of this cover letter formula. So we always start with, “I love you.” Which is: Why are you interested in the company and this role? This is something that is not on your resume, and it’s important for the company to know a decent reason. (I share an example in the video.) Next step of the Barney method is “You love me.” And here show that you are the person uniquely fit to solve their problems. Give an example or explain why you are fit despite an unconventional background. Do not simply repeat the experience listed on your resume. There you go. An entire cover letter in five sentences! PS - I’m linking my FREE resume workshop in my bio to ensure you have a high converting resume that gets interviews. Because I great cover letter can not overcome a poor resume.
