“What are your salary expectations?” can feel uncomfortable, but you don’t need to guess a number on the spot. 1. Redirect first If they haven’t shared the range: “Could you share the budgeted range for this position?” 2. If they push, show your research “Based on similar roles in this market and the scope of this position, I’m targeting a base salary around $X–$Y.” 3. Connect it to your value Mention the experience or skills that support that range. 4. Stay flexible “I’m also open to discussing the overall compensation package.” And remember: your range should be researched. If you say $90K–$105K, be prepared for the conversation to start around $90K. Don’t use your rent, bills, or current lifestyle to justify your salary. Your number should be based on the role, market, scope, and value you bring. Comment “SALARY” and I’ll send you my full guide with scripts for recruiter screens, current-salary questions, low ranges, offers, and negotiation. Keywords: salary expectations, salary negotiation, interview salary question, job interview tips, compensation negotiation #salarynegotiation #interviewtips #interviewprep #jobsearch #careertips
